‘Little Sixt’, it’s simply wonderful; tucked away up the ‘narrow end’ of the Giffre Valley, here is where true mountain living takes place. Sixt is home to a small ski area that is great for families and beginners, yet has the benefit of being linked to the rest of the Grand Massif by the fabulous 17km ‘Cascade’ piste. Experienced skiers can explore the Grand Massif at their leisure and enjoy the views during the long descent home.
The pistes of Sixt are often ignored by more proficient skiers, who view them as a ‘beginners only’ area - don’t tell too many people, but it is actually fantastic when the ‘powder days’ arrive. Get the first chair up in the morning and enjoy the solitude of untouched slopes without the high altitude hike.
Sixt Fer à Cheval is classified amongst the ‘Most Beautiful Villages of France’ due to its setting around the 900 year-old Abbey . It is surrounded by the largest and perhaps most beautiful Natural Reserve in Haute-Savoie. During a summer visit, the sites of the ‘Cirque du Fer à Cheval’, the ‘Cascade du Rouget’ and the ‘Gorges des Tines’ should not be missed.
